Frequently asked questions
What is veg tanned leather anyway?
The oldest and most intricate processing of tanning is called vegetable tanned (or veg tanned) and this process has been used for thousands of years. This organic method uses natrually occuring tannins to preserve leather. These tannins can be found in the bark of trees and leaves of many plants.
What does patina mean?
The idea of patina can refer to many materials, but it is a signature characteristic of high quality leather. As a leather item is handled and used, a soft sheen develops on the surface which provides character and tells a story of its journey. It is a natural part of the aging process of leather, and each item will darken in color and become more supple. Naturally tanned leather will age beautifully and become an heirloom piece that only becomes more unique with age.
Will the leather paint chip or come off?
We only use high quality, non-toxic and water based paints that are not only safe for the enviornment but also are extremely durable. The paint actually bonds with the leather so it will not chip or come off over time. The leather will continue to patina, which will only enhance the designs over time.
